Youths from over ten districts attended a one day training programme conducted by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) recently under the Youth Integrity Project (YIP) at the BMICH on 22nd January 2014. They had forwarded creative and innovative ideas for implementation under the YIP
The training covered topics related to bribery and corruption and included types of corruption, its impact on society, mechanisms in place to combat corruption and planning and implementation of anti – corruption activities. Apart from the training on corruption they were informed of how should the contribute to develop Sri Lank as a nation of integrity.
More than 20 youths representing Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Polonnaruwa, Puttlam , Anuradhapura, Mannar, Jaffna, Kandy, Nuwaraeliya and Matale districts participated in the training.
The participants were among hundreds of youths who responded to TISL’s request to apply if they had an innovative or creative project to combat corruption. After a methodical screening process they were identified to build their capacity to effectively develop and manage their project idea on corruption mitigation.
The participants greatly appreciated what they learned during the training programme and promised to further develop their projects based on the knowledge they gained. They were requested to send their proposals on or before 10th February after which they will be examined by a panel of experts. Under the YIP programme selected applicants will receive financial assistance to start the projects.
TISL Executive Director S. Ranugge, attorney-at-law Jagath Liyanarachchi and TISL managers L Ananda Jayasekara, Nauli Wimalarathna and Sashee de Mel conducted the sessions at the workshop.
