The Capacity Building Unit (CBU) of TISL conducted a one day training programme on Anti Corruption and Good Governance on the theme of “Strengthening Transparency, Integrity and Accountability: Preventing Corruption through Community Participation/Voice”. Leaders of Community Based Organizations (CBO) within the division of Mawathagama Divisional Secretariat took part in this one day programme.
The training workshop utilized participatory methods to improve the capacity of the participants to identify governance issues in their locality. They were also given training on how to develop mechanisms to find remedies to address these issues.
29 CBO leaders were represented among the participants, including 15 women. Mr. Ranjith Ariyarathne, Divisional Secretary of Mawathagama, Ms. Anuradha Jayasooriya, Assistant Divisional Secretary and Ms. T. Kalaimagal, Director of CBU was also present at the inaugural session. Mr. Ariyarathne highlighted the progressive mechanisms they have initiated within the division and mentioned that programmes such as this will enhance public participation for improving good governance. Mr. Dhanushka Wijekoon (Programme Manager of CBU) and Mr. Sandun Gunawardana (Programme Coordinator of CBU) conducted the programme. Eight members of the participant’s volunteered to follow up the programme on behalf of the whole group.
