Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) had its first Consultative Committee Meeting on ‘Water and Integrity’ on 22nd October 2007 at Regency Room, Hotel Taj Samudra – Colombo, from 4pm to 6pm . Mr Rukshana Nanayakkara, Deputy Executive Director of TISL chaired this meeting.
The seminar brought up the issues relating to the water sector of Sri Lanka. Mr Rajindra Ariyabandu, Researcher – Water Resources Management, delivered a speech on ‘Issues and concerns in the water governance: Sri Lanka’ Mr Ananda Silva, Additional General Manager – Ministry of Water and Drainage conducted a useful discussion on practical aspects of Sri Lankan Water sector,’ on the theme, Why Water is costly?’. Dr Visaka Hidellage, Country Director-practical Action delivered a speech on ‘Community and Water’. Before the discussion, participants engaged in watching a documentary on ‘Secure water’. Meeting adjourned after the discussion, which shared valuable view points of the guest speakers as well as the participants. Transparency International Sri Lanka will organize the next consultative committee meeting on ‘Environment and Integrity’ on 26th November 2007.
The Consultative Committee Meeting was a live discussion on issues in water sector of Sri Lanka. Participants were diverse as law lecturers, law students and officers in water sector of Sri Lanka. The outcome of the meeting will be published in a booklet with the idea of promoting policy reforms in the sector.
