Call for Applications – TISL Journalism Fellowship

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL), the local chapter of the global movement against corruption is inviting expressions of interest from young journalists for the TISL Journalism Fellowship to Strengthen Accountable Governance in Sri Lanka. The fellowship includes workshops and support for the publishing of news stories focusing on public procurement, accountability, asset declarations, asset recovery and other related topics.

TISL commenced the Fellowship programme last year to encourage selected young journalists to improve their investigative journalism skills and to report on corruption related themes. There were 5 journalists who were mentored under renowned senior journalists under this project since March 2019 to November 2019. TISL will be recruiting two journalists to this program from August 2020 to April 2021. Throughout the fellowship period, the successful applicants will be required to apply the knowledge acquired in developing and producing news stories relating to the aforementioned topics.

Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 40,000/= as support for developing their news stories. The fellowship is open to journalists across print media platforms.

Eligibility & EoI Criteria
To be eligible for selection, applicant must
– Be a citizen of Sri Lanka between the ages of 20-35
– Submit an up to date CV with cover letter elaborating on their interest in anti-corruption work and demonstrating their understanding of aforementioned subjects
– Submit proof of educational and professional qualifications
– Submit 3 samples of work on either print, electronic or digital platforms
– Submit a letter from the Editor/News Director authorizing them to participate in the fellowship (Freelancers are required to submit a letter of recommendation from an Editor/News Director)
