Two local authorities in the Galle District want to help them to improve their service delivery and people’s participation in decision making.
The request has come from Chairmen of the Ambalangoda Municipal Council and the Ambalagoda Pradeshiya Saba of TISL Chairman along with the officials of the two local bodies.
TISL is currently working with Pradeshiya Sabha of Rideemaliyadda in Badulla District on a similar project.
The two chairmen believe that a similar programme in their councils to improve the efficiency of the staff and the elected members will be very useful.
At a meeting TISL had with them it was decided to organize a series of training programmes for the staff and elected members. Before the training TISL will do an assessment of the current situation to evaluate the service delivery, income generation, decision-making and the closeness to the public.
The training will be conducted by former senior public officials. The chairmen have also requested TISL to help them to draft a development plan for the councils.
