Twenty five complaints a day

According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, the Commission receives up to twenty five complaints a day.

Chairman of the Commission, Former Supreme Court Judge Jagath Baalapatabedi said that out of the forty raids carried out during the past tjhree months, twenty three were successful.

The Chairman of the Commission noted that even though complaints are lodged with regard to land disputes, action cannot be taken as per the Bribery Act.

However, he went on to say that under the bribery laws, investigations could be conducted on state employees if it is found that they used money from bribes to accumulate assets both movable and unmovable in the names of their spouses or relatives.
