Immigration and Emigration Department, one of the Sri Lanka’s best government institutions has taken a further step towards efficiency by issuing a passport within a hour after the office opens. The Department opens at 8.30 a.m. And the first passport used to be issued after one hour.
Training Manager Saman K Chandrasiri said a new system has been adopted from last Friday with the support of the staff to issue the day’s first passport within the first hour of work. Under the one day service the Department issues closer to 1200 passports per day.
“A huge amount of hard work and training has enabled the staff to enhance the efficiency of the institution and it’s showing rich dividends,” he said participating in a training workshop conducted by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) for the staff of the Department.
He added that the training programmes conducted by TISL over the past two years have enhanced the efficiency of the staff who have realized the importance of providing a better service and good governance practices.
Under the current training programme held over a period of four weeks, 350 staff members are being trained on good governance, anti-corruption and financial integrity.
