Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) expresses its deepest regrets over the demise of late Justice Mark Fernando, who was not only a judge par excellence but was also known for his integrity and exemplary conduct.
A media release from TISL states:
“Late Justice Fernando’s decisions have had a revolutionary influence in Sri Lanka’s judicial history, principles for transparency and good governance, particularly in relation to administrative and constitutional law. Sadly he retired prematurely from the Supreme Court despite requests from thousands of individuals and professionals, at a time he felt that he was not needed on the bench. TISL salutes him once again for his fair, unbowed and strong judicial qualities.
“Referring to the lawlessness and deterioration of Rule of Law, about a year ago, he said 100 good people can change the country.”
