The four-year Development Plan of the Rideemaliyadda Pradeshiya Sabha (PS) in the Badulla facilitated by TISL will be implemented from August 2012.
The monthly Pradeshiya Sabha meeting was converted into a committee meeting before the presentation of the Plan by TISL representatives. Earlier, people in Rideemaliyadda along with the PS members had identified projects in the area that should be given priority for development. Such projects were incorporated to the development plan.
After adopting the plan PS Chairman Karu Weeraratne said that Rideemaliyadda is the one of the poorest divisions in Sri Lanka and this will be its first effort to move away from that reckoning.
While promising his fullest cooperation towards the implementation of the plan, opposition leader Upali Senaratne acknowledged the commitment made by all the PS members to make the effort a success.
“We firmly believe this plan will enhance the council’s service delivery and it will also help to reduce corruption,” he said.
Commending the support extended by of everyone towards drafting the Development Plan, TISL Senior Manager Shan Wijethunge said that people’s participation in the decision-making process of the council will enhance its efficiency. He assured TISL’s supporttowards further enhancing peoples participation in the PS activities.
Former Chief Secretary- Sabaragamuwa & Secretary to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Piyasena Ranasinghe pledged his support to train the staff members to perform better.
The chairman thanked TISL for facilitating the development plan. He requested TISL to assist in improving the efficient working of the PS and in introducing best practices relating to anti- corruption, integrity and governance to the staff members.
