Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) vehemently condemns the attack on MTV/MBC offices by a gang this afternoon. Citing this attack as yet another blow to media freedom in the country, TISL Deputy Executive Director, Rukshana Nanayakkara said that when media should feel free to present news and views independently particularly with just a fortnight for the general election, such acts should be strongly denounced.
TISL urges the relevant authorities to take action immediately to hold a full inquiry into the incident and ensure that media institutions are given protection thereby preventing such incidents, he added.
