TISL completes first Investigative Journalism training for 2009

ijTransparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) successfully conducted a three-day residential training workshop on Investigative Journalism for a group of journalists from the North Western (Wayamba) Province.

21 participants including seven female journalists participated in the program. The following resource-persons conducted the workshop.

Poddala Jayantha, Investigative journalist – J.C Weliamuna, Executive Director of TISL – S.G Punchihewa, Attorney-at-Law – Lasantha De Silva, Journalist, Uva Community Radio – Ananda Jayasekera, Investigative journalist and the Media Officer of TISL  – D. C Ranathunga,  Experienced journalist and Media consultant to TISL  – Dhanushka Wijekoon, Programme Manager of TISL.

Participants were given an immeasurable opportunity to interact with experts on law, governance and corruption-combating. Many of the participants were young journalists who are new to the field and this also gave them an opportunity to interact with senior journalists, enhancing their skills and their capabilities. The participants were very enthusiastic throughout the workshop and openly shared their opinions and views with the resource-persons, and actively contributed to the success of the entire program.

The second workshop will be held at the end of April.
