TISL Assures Unconditional Support to TI Maldives

Transparency International Sri Lanka assured unconditional support and solidarity to Transparency International Maldives (TIM) on severe persecution they were faced with after the Election.
In a letter to TIM, S. Ranugge Executive Director called on the Maldivian Government to ensure the safety of the staff and volunteers of Transparency Maldives.
Full text of the letter is below.

We were both disturbed and dismayed on hearing the ongoing unfortunate events in the Maldives post 2013 Presidential elections and the problems faced by Transparency Maldives as a result.
On behalf of the Board, Management, Staff and Membership of TISL may I offer you our unconditional support and solidarity at this moment of severe persecution. As you know TISL is no stranger to political intimidation and completely understand your situation. We are gravely concerned about the safety of the Chapter staff and volunteers following the attack on one of your volunteers and the telephone threats received by staff members. We call on the Maldivian Government to ensure the safety of the staff and volunteers of Transparency Maldives.

As a Chapter that engages in election monitoring we are well aware of the difficulties faced by monitors and observers in ensuring electoral integrity. We commend you for the good work carried out by Transparency Maldives in advocating for transparency and accountability in the electoral process and wish you strength and courage to continue forward in your journey towards integrity.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us should you need assistance from TISL.
