An internal study regarding how International Non-governmental organizations (INGO) and local Non-governmental organizations (NGO) operate in Sri Lanka is currently being conducted by the relevant authorities.
INGOs and NGOs will be regulated in the future and how they operate is currently being studied, Director General of the Media Centre for National Security Lakshman Hulugalle told Daily Mirror online.
Mr. Hulugalle added that how thousands of INGO and NGOs in Sri Lanka operate will be looked into to see if they are doing a genuine service to the community or benefiting only a particular section. The opinions of experts in this field are also being obtained and how other countries treat and regulate NGO’s will also be studied, he said.
The reports of the parliamentary select committee regarding this topic will also be referred to, Mr. Hulugalle added. (Daily Mirror online)
