Investigative Journalists and trained Journalists in investigative Journalism formed a network to purse the Investigative Journalism in Sri Lanka and to affiliate with Global networks to improve the capacities of the journalists.
This network was established when more than 60 journalists participated in a meeting held in Sri Lanka Press Institute to discuss the importance of raising investigative journalism in the country. Transparency International Sri Lanka has decided to facilitate and host the secretarial functions of the Network.
At this meeting Shan Wijethunge senior manager of TISL briefed the journalists on the 9th Global Investigative Journalism Conference took place in Lillehammer, Norway on 08th to 11th October 2015. He briefed them that more than 900 world’s leading investigative reporters, top data journalists, and experts in collaboration, teaching and training participated in the 04 day conference. He conducted two sessions to share the experience he gained at the conference after attending several panel meetings and the workshops.
He further stressed that TISL is willing to help the journalists in the future to build their capacities to become more professional media personalities. He urged them to form a network which will help the TISL to keep a close rapport. Trained journalists welcomed this request and shown keen interest to establish the network.
After the briefing on 09th Global Investigative Journalism Conference journalists in plenary decided to appoint 04 persons to act as the conveners of the network. The rest of the committee will consist of representatives from each district.
