Sri Lanka government has focused on to enhance powers of the Sri Lanka Bribery and Corruption commission, to enable the officials to directly engage in probes of the most corrupt establishments.
Accordingly, the Bribery or Corruption Act is to be amended. The Bribery and Corruption Commission will be empowered to probe the bribery and corruption of the public departments, corporations, and boards etc. directly without complaints, government sources say.
Presently, the Bribery and Corruption Commission cannot intervene without a complaint.
The Chairman of the Commission Jagath Balapatabendi told media that the Commission will be able to appoint officials to monitor the highly corrupt establishments under these amendments to the Act.
