Background
Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) is a National Chapter of Transparency International (TI), the leading global movement against corruption. TISL raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Communicating to external stakeholders on the negative impact of corruption and programs conducted by TISL is key to creating awareness and reducing the occurrence of corruption. For this purpose, TISL has initiated the creation of a Communications Team that will be responsible towards formulating messages and communicating to diverse stakeholders to achieve the vision and mission of TISL.
The Communication Officer reports to the Executive Director and responsible to implement the different project related communication activities and sectoral interventions under the guidance of the manager.
Scope
This position supports ensuring availability of communication materials in all local languages and English and implementation of TISL activities on social media and mass media in local languages and English. The Communication Officer is responsible for the day-to-day management of strategic communication & planning and social media of organisational communication and the projects and to support the delivery of annual work plan.
Core-Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Executive Director and Senior Manager – Advocacy and Programmes, to implement the communications strategy based on TISL’s target audiences.
- Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of TISL and coordinate publicity events as required.
- Assist in writing, editing, and distributing content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other communications material regarding the organization’s activities, products and/or services and translate them in to Tamil or Sinhala.
- Maintain all social media platforms and website with new content and regular updating.
- Liaise with the media, arrange interviews and gain maximum milage for organisation’s communication materials.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database.
- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics.
- Maintain the documentation of TISL related media articles, photographs, statistics on media reach (social media included) videos etc.
- Report periodically to Management with corresponding evidence on progress made and activities conducted.
- Be skilled in using all communication related equipment.
- Support staff to mainstream strategic communication across the organization.
- Support staff to maintain strategic communications with all stakeholders.
- Support to create effective online and offline content in order to achieve TISL’s communication objectives.
- Develop all types of social media content with the assistance of the TISL staff utilizing the resources (human and physical) available in the organization.
- Facilitate the designing, planning and execution communication campaigns and events.
- Liaise with the media, arrange interviews and gain maximum milage for the organisation’s communication materials.
- Support the development of website content with the Manager – Web/IT.
- Ensure that all communication materials are trilingual.
- Provide support to ensure TISL’s work, values and causes receive optimal visibility.
- Carry out organization wide translations as directed by the manager and ensure materials are available in Tamil.
- Draft progress reports and make presentations when required.
Management of resources and stakeholders
- Work together as the Communications team and collaborate with other teams.
- Maintaining a systematic and up to date record keeping, adhering to security protocols.
- Effective utilization of organizational resources.

- To be up-to date with all anti-corruption legislation in Sri Lanka
- Holds self-accountable for making decisions, managing resources efficiently, achieving and rele modelling TISL values
- Ensure monitoring templates are updated regularly with information from project working locations and key stakeholders.
- To contribute to and support positive morale within teams.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- A graduate degree in a relevant field including communication and media studies, marketing or visual arts.
- 03 years of relevant work experience communications in either the public, private or civil society
sectors.
- Demonstrable knowledge of how advocacy and research can be utilized in furthering TISL’s mission of combating corruption.
- A good understanding of how civil society functions.
- Networking skills with civil society and government counterparts and media agencies.
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills, with fluency in Sinhala or Tamil.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to human rights, inclusivity and diversity.
- Understanding on the anti-corruption and governance discourse in Sri Lanka.
- Committed to the values of Integrity and Anti-Corruption.
- Working experiences in a digital media platform will be an additional qualification.
