Political parties have erected as many as 1,666 unlawful cut-outs and banners throughout the country, according to a report compiled by the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) yesterday. It was handed over to the Elections Secretariat yesterday.
The report says that the UPFA has put up the highest number of unlawful cut-outs and banners. According to PAFFREL, the party has erected 630 unlawful cut-outs which are less than six feet in size. The highest amount of such cut-outs numbering 97 has been found in Galle. There are 90 in Kandy and 70 in Colombo. However, even a single such cut-out has not been found in Jaffna and Nuwara-Eliya.
The PAFFREL has noted that 374 cut-outs by the UPFA, between seven and 12 feet in height were erected while the party has put up 231 cut-outs higher than 12 feet.
The UNP is responsible for 50 small scale, 28 medium sized and 17 large scale cut-outs. They have placed 12 small cut-outs at different locations in Colombo, 16 medium sized and seven large scale ones.
There are 57 unlawful cut-outs erected by other parties as well.
Besides, the PAFFREL has reported about 263 unlawful banners being displayed by the UPFA and 16 by the UNP.
