Nearly 50,000 people in Srilanka have lost their jobs due to the Global economic recession Mahinda Madihewa Secretary to the Ministry of Labour said.
The people who have lost their jobs are mostly from the private sector and their monthly wage was around Rs.20, 000.
According to the Secretary, Ministry has started a survey to estimate the number of people lost their jobs and grievances they are facing.
“We knew most of them are facing many hardships and we are making effort to facilitate them with an allowance till they find a sufficient work. “He said.
Three member team from International Lobour Organization is currently visiting Srilanka to introduce Unemployment Benefit Insurance Scheme for the people who lost their jobs. “Through this scheme we are planning to make a monthly allowance for them” Mr Madihewa said.
