NCP journalists trained on land issues

More than twenty Provincial Journalists in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts in North Central Province (NCP) underwent training on State Land Rights and Media Responsibilities on Saturday 12th January 2012 at Chaya Village in Habarana.

The training workshop was jointly organized by Oxfam and Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) as an initiative under the ‘Right to Land for Small scale Farmers’ project.

Deputy secretary general of NCP, Keerthi Gamage conducted a session on government donated lands and challenges faced by the public when securing a land for themselves and lawyer Sajeed Ahamed made a presentation on Right to Land and Right to Information on lands.

Senior lawyer from Anuradhapura, Karunarathna Herath gave an insight into laws pertaining to lands.

It was the first time that a workshop on Right to Land was conducted for NCP journalists. They commended the organizers for giving them an opportunity to learn more on land issues and right to land.

TISL’s Jagath Liyanarachchi and Shan Wijethunge also conducted sessions.
