The Postal Department has had to incur an annual expense of Rs 650 million for the payment of overtime to its workers, a senior official of the department said.
The monthly overtime bill was expected to be in the region of 60 Million while salaries and other emoluments per year was in the region of Rs 700 million, it was revealed. The monthly overtime expenses paid to employees of the Central Mail Exchange alone exceed Rs 1.2 million, it said. There are approximately 3000 workers in this section alone while there were about 20,000 workers in total in the postal department while there existed another 1000 odd vacancies, the official announced.
