Mihin Lanka, the budget airline, had suffered a loss of Rs.720 million last year, as stated in the 2010 Annual Report of the Finance and Planning Ministry, which is 20 million more than the Rs. 700 million reported during the previous financial year.
In order to reduce the operational cost and increase productivity, staff had been laid off by scrapping 83 posts during the year under review. Mihin Lanka had expanded its flight operations to destinations such as Dubai and Trichi and also to Kuwait, Boddhagaya and Benares.
The Mihin Lanka flights have also been expanded to Dhaka, Male and Jakarta recently, the report states.
