Secretary to the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry to investigate and inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power Lacille de Silva was removed yesterday from the post with immediate effect.
Presidential Secretary P. B. Abeykoon had conveyed the decision to the Presidential Commission.
Contacted for comment Lacille de Silva said, “I was shocked to hear my removal.” He added that he had discharged the duties and responsibilities entrusted to him with diligence, impartiality and transparency and it was the reward he had received for all the hard work.
The commission has investigated several cases of fraud and corruption committed during the previous regime.
Top SLAS officer H. W. Gunadasa was appointed the new Secretary to the Commission yesterday. He also served as the Secretary to the Commission to Investigate Missing Persons.

PRECIFAC & its Secretary’s initial appointments for one year – Secretary to the President clarifies
Secretary to the President P. B. Abeykoon issued the following clarification regarding not extending the service of the Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges (PRECIFAC).
The PRECIFAC was appointed for a period of one year. Parallel to the extension of the commission for another one year, the services of the Chairman and other Commissioners were also extended to another year.
The tenure of the Secretary of this commission had not extended in parallel to this and as reported in certain media the service of the Secretary Mr. Lasil de Silva had not been terminated or removed from his position.
Mr. Gunadasa , the former Secretary to the Presidential Commission to Investigate into Complaints Regarding Missing Persons has been appointed as secretary of this commission to fulfill the works of the commission in a more efficient and successful manner.
