Grade One admission interview results of 400 schools in the north western province would be cancelled and fresh interviews would be held for assessment, sources said.
The Director of Education of the North Western Province has ordered the Principals of 400 schools in the province to cancel the results of the interviews for students to admit to Grade One already held and to hold fresh interviews for assessment.
Sources said that a circular released in this regard stated that in the new interview boards there should be two persons nominated by the Provincial Director of Education and out of them, one has to be the Chairman of the Interview Board.
Although the North Western Director of Education has given such instructions, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education has given instructions specifying that the School Principal shall act as the Chairman of the Interview Board, to be applicable for the intake for the First Year in 2011. According to Ministerial Secretary’s stipulations, no one from Provincial Education Director or from any Line Agency relevant to Education should be included. When inquired from the Provincial Director of Education of North Western Province, Mr. J.G.N. Thilekerathne, as to why he took such a step contrary to the Directive given by the Secretary of the Ministry, he said that it was according to an order from the Governor.
Further, he said that the Governor was compelled to take such a decision due to numerous complaints received.
Therefore, he had taken such a step in order to ensure fair treatment to all.
