A joint proposal to establish a network of Government officials to curb corruption in the Public Sector was proposed at the Peoples Platform (PP) held in Thamankaduwa Divisional Secretariat Division in Polonnaruwa on 23rd November 2011.
The proposal at the beginning of the PP by a group of officials was unanimously endorsed by all the officials who participated. They requested TISL to take the lead role in establishing the network. It was agreed to study the guidelines laid down by the Clean Hands Movement and prepare a draft soon. The officials who spoke reiterated their commitment and promised to get the support of their superiors as well.
The People’s Platform which was organized jointly by Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) and Thamankaduwa Divisional Secretariat was presided over by District Secretary Nimal Abeysiri. It attracted a large number of officials and public. An exhibition and a mobile service also took place at the same venue before the PP.
Welcoming the proposal, District Secretary Abeysiri said he is ready to take the lead role in establishing the network among the offices in the district. Appreciating the proposal he said that public officials must get-together to serve the country more purposefully and with integrity.
The officials of the Immigration and Emigration Department, Registration of Persons department, Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau, Pensions Department, Blood Bank, Agriculture Department and , Thamankaduwa DS office participated in the exhibition and the PP along with officials from CIABOC, Human Rights and several other organizations.
