TISL conducted ‘Good Governance’ workshop at the Management Training Institute in Wakwella for Internal Auditors and Investigative Officers employed in all local government authorities in Galle District. The aim of the workshop was to promote transparency and accountability in governance at the Provincial level.
The workshop covered varying topics including how to provide better service to the public and the importance of abiding by the regulatory framework, duties and responsibilities in relation to good governance in the form of providing accurate and complete responses to probative questions, preventing the misappropriation of resources, conducting investigations into allegations of corruption, performance of internal audits and other obligations.
The theoretical and practical foundations of auditing and investigation in government sector was explained by the retired Deputy Auditor General, Mr. M. D. A. Harold and Investigative Officer of the Department of Local Government (Southern Province), A. H. M. N. Udayasiri.
Dileka Kudachchi, the Commissioner of the Department of Local Government (Southern Province) was present at the workshop and contributed her invaluable input. Mr. Janaka Leelarathna, representative of the Department of Local Government (Southern Province) Good Governance Centre and Mr. Ananda Jayasekara, TISL Manager for Local Governance Initiatives assisted to workshop.
