Cabinet had decided yesterday to interdict Railways General Manager R. P. Wijesekara until the completion of the court case against him on charges of misappropriation of funds, government sources said.
Earlier, Transport Minister Kumara Welgama said that neither he nor his secretary had the right to interdict Mr. Wijesekara.
Accordingly, the matter had been referred to Cabinet last evening. The minister had been instructed to take action to interdict the general manager.
The GM is accused of having misappropriated Rs.10 million. The Bribery Commission had conducted investigations and filed a prima facie case against him.
