In the maintenance of two diesel boilers of the Peradeniya Teaching hospital, diesel has been used in excess of their capacity causing a loss of nearly Rs. 4.1 million to the government as exposed on an inspection done by the Audit officers.
Audit inspection reports have been made available to the Director General Health Ministry, Peradeniya Hospital Director, Secretary Ministry of Finance and Planning, and Assistant Government Auditor.
From January 01 2004 to August 9, 2009 for five years, 65,735 litres of diesel had been allegedly used in excess of the due capacity according to investigations. Audit inspections point to a fraud in the use of diesel excessively.
