Executive Director of the Centre for Policy Alternatives Dr. Pakiasothy Saravanamuttu was detained and questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and later released at the Bandaranayaka International Airport upon his return to Colombo from United States early this morning.
Upon his arrival at the Airport CID officials questioned him for about 20 minutes before letting him free. The CID had questioned Dr. Saravanamuttu regarding the former convener of the Free Media Movement Sunnanda Deshapriya.
Dr. Saravanamuttu last month had lodged a complaint with the Police over a death threat .
Meanwhile, Airport authorities who detained him at the airport have said the CID had wanted to question Dr. Saravanamuttu since Feburuary.
Dr. Saravanamuttu who was a former director to the Transparency International Srilanka is one of the leading human rights activists in the country.
