Corruption charges on Principal

The Director General of the Bribery Commission complained to the Colombo Chief Magistrate that the Principal of Ananda College, Colombo had committed corruption while admitting students to grade one in the year 2005.

The Director General Lukshmy Menaka  Chitra Jayawickrama of the Commission to Investigate into Allegations of Bribery  or Corruption filing a report before the  Chief Magistrate Ms. Champa Janaki Rajaratna complained  that the Principal, Bulugahamulla Arambagedera Abeyratne of Anada College, Colombo being  the  Chairman of the  School Admission Board in the year 2004  had  cut off the name of the son of Sarath Walgama  from the selected list of admissions for year 2005 .

Mr Sarath Walgama who was a  resident and the chief occupant of a premises at Temple Road, Maradana. The premises  is  adjacent to Anadana  College and the complainant  Sarath Walgama   had applied to enroll his son to  grade one at Ananda College in the year 2005 under the category of chief occupant.

However the Principal well knowing that an irreparable loss would caused to the child if his name was cut off from the selected list had wantonly and willfully in malicious intentions had cut off the name from the list.

In the meantime the Principal in the process of admitting children to grade one in year 2005 well knowing that  K.G. Cyril Ananda was not a resident in the area had fraudulently had  entered  his name into the list by the Principal on  forged  public documents.

The commission also submitted that the   Principal had also forged documents to another person named  K.G. Gunaseeli of Gonawela, Kelaniya to premises no 27/ 16, Temple Road, Colombo  fraudulently in order to  prove her residency in the area.

The commission submitted that offences are committed under section 70 of the Bribery Commission Act and to notice the principal to appear before court to inquire the complaint. The court fixed the inquiry for June 26.
