Former Ports and Aviation Minister Chamal Rajapaksa will be elected as Speaker at today’s inaugural sessions of the seventh parliament. Priyankara Jayaratne is to be elected as Deputy Speaker. He held this post in the previous parliament as well.
UPFA national list MP A.H.M. Azwer is expected to be appointed Deputy Chairman of committees.
Today’s sessions which are scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. will be limited to the taking of oaths of the new MPs, election of Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Deputy Chairman of Committees.
