Bribery Commission gets 25 complaints per day

The commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption receives about 25 complaints a day about bribery and corruption taking place in the State sector, its Chairman former Supreme Court Judge Jagath Balapatabendi said yesterday.

He said that the Commission has received several complaints about people giving money on interest, but it doesn’t have any power to take action against such acts.

“There were 3,700 complaints received during the period the commission was defunct and they are being investigated following the re-establishment of the Commission on May 15 this year,” he said.
