The Elections Secretariat will post ballot papers today in view of the postal voting, which is to take place on March 25 and 26 at government institutions.

Public servants and members of the armed forces and

police are entitled to apply for postal voting rights. 415,419 persons are eligible to cast postal votes at the April 8 general elections. However, 477,110 persons had applied for postal votes.

The elections authorities have been compelled to print long ballot papers this time due to the large number of political parties and independent groups in the fray. Officials said they had to import a large stock of paper from India to print the ballot papers.

“It incurred a lot of money. We cannot tell the exact amount,” they said.
