The Corruption Watch headed by human rights lawyer and Western provincial councillor Shiral Lakthilake yesterday challenged Treasury Secretary P.B. Jayasundara to state how the government plans to revive the 54 state institutions running at a loss for the past three years.
Speaking at the news briefing held yesterday at the Office of the College of Politics, Nawala, Rajagiriya, Mr. Lakthilake also said that the Government should take total responsibility for the loss making of the institutions. “The Sri Lanka Ports Authority, the Fertilizer Corporation, SriLankan Airlines, the Paddy Board and the Ceylon Electricity Board are a few of the State institutions which were affected by the mismanagement of the Government,” he said.
He also pointed out that similar to the Indian situation the Sri Lankan Government has sold the 2G and 3 G Frequency Spectrum telecommunication systems in an underhand way.
