Members of the Ambalangoda Urban Council (UC) approved the TISL progarmme to make the council corrupt free and efficient to strengthen the people’s participation in the decision making.
At the monthly meeting of the Ambalangoda UC held on 08th February, all the elected members including those in the opposition, higher officials of the UC and the media personnel were present.
The council meeting was converted into committee stage to discuss the shortcomings of the council’s revenue generation, systemic governance issues and lack of people’s participation and the structures of the council.
TISL Chairman, M.D.Harold and former senior administrator Piyatissa Ranasinghe presented their findings of the shortcomings in the Council which the latter had studied earlier. He has had made several rounds of meetings with the officials of the council.
UC Chairman, Aruna Pradeep explained that TISL was invited to conduct training workshops and assist in developing skills of the council staff.
Mr. Harold in his speech stressed the need to have financial stability and accountability to improve the governance of the council. He pointed out that through people’s participation in the decision-making process and improving the ability of the staff, corruption can be minimized.
After the presentations, elected members approved the proposed programme and thanked TISL for coming forward to help them to improve the governance of the council.
