After 10 years, charges against ex CWE boss

Summons were issued on a former acting manager of Sathosa to appear in Court on January 31 on charges of corruption committed by him in the sale of white raw rice between July 1 and July 20 in 2002.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption yesterday filed charges against the former acting manager Sunil V. Perera of Nayakakande in Hendala. He is accused of selling 1,000 metric tonnes of white raw rice below the prescribed price and as such had caused a Rupees four million loss to Sathosa.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli said he was surprised to find that the Bribery Commission had taken 10 years to file action against the suspect.
