An acting Chairman of the Gangawata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha in Kandy was arrested while soliciting a bribe of Rs. 15,000 from a woman in the Penideniya area, by the investigation officers of the Bribery Commission.
Thereafter the suspect T. M. Surendra Bandara was produced before the Kandy Magistrate Lalith Ekanayake and was remanded till January 19. The Magistrate ordered the Prisons Superintendent to produce the suspect on January 19 in the Colombo Magistrate court.
Police said that the suspect was arrested when he had solicited the bribe from a woman to approve a housing plan.
