A handbook on land issues

Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) has commenced work to produce a handbook on land issues to create awareness for public officials and the public.

A workshop was conducted In Anuradhapura recently with the participation of officials of the North Central Province and the Land Commissioner’s Department to identify the issues concerned and the content of the book.

In Sri Lanka where majority of the population still depends on agriculture as their main income, has many issues relating to the ownership of the lands. When transferring, buying and selling of land there are many regulations where most of the public are not aware of.

The handbook will feature regulations, processes and institutions dealing with land issues. It will introduce a mechanism to obtain information on land related issues. The handbook will be used in TISL’s training programmes.
