Eighty percent (80%) of postal voters had cast their votes yesterday (29), the first day for postal voting for the remaining 23 Provincial Councils, independent election monitors said.
Rohana Hettiarachchi, the director of PAFFREL, said that the marking of postal votes was taking place in a peaceful atmosphere. He further stated that their representatives had been deployed at 63 polling stations including CTB depots, Police stations, Army camps, Education offices and several Provincial administrative units and their reports did not indicate that any untoward incident had taken place at any of the polling stations.
Meanwhile, the Election Secretariat said that those who could not exercise their franchise yesterday could do so today (30). There are some 4500 persons who were eligible for postal voting.
