Ten complaints have been made to the Tangalle police about a racketeer who had fraudulently taken money from a batch of job seekers promising to give them state appointments. The fraudster has vanished after taking a huge amount of money.

Salaries not paid for four months
The trainees of the Kalutara Nurses Training School, the Director and the staff have not been paid their salaries and allowances for the last four months. The authorities have fraudulently obtained the signatures confirming payment of December and January salaries,according to the Government Nursing Officers’ Association.

Bail application
Colombo High Court judge Deepali Wijesundara issued notice on the officer in charge of the Commercial Crime Division of the Criminal Investigation Department to appear before Court in connection with the bail application filed by the chairman of the Ceylinco Group of Companies.

Fake beggars with children
Most children with beggar women do not belong to them. The NCPA has taken steps to arrest the perpetrators who run this ‘business’. Some persons collect money for sick children though it should be done only by parents after obtaining the permission of relevant Divisional Secretary, NCPA Chairman Jagath Wellawatte said.

Money not paid by ex- Minister’s wife’s company
The Government incurred a loss of Rs. 176.8 million because a private company, owned by the wife of a former Fisheries Minister, did not unload fish at the Mutwal fisheries harbour, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Felix Perera told Parliament on 5 March.

A Dancing teacher nabbed
A dancing teacher attached to a well known girls school in Colombo who had bogusly collected money from parents was arrested by the Police Fraud Investigation Unit. The teacher had said that she wanted some money for an urgent matter but failed to settle as she promised.

CID to grill Lalith Kotelawala
The Criminal Investigation Department is to record a statement from Ceylinco Chief Lalith Kotelawala now in remand but warded at the National Hospital, over the Golden Key fraud case. Meanwhile, Golden Key employees warned of protests outside the homes of directors of Ceylinco Group companies if their salaries are not paid by March second week.

SALUSALA for Mahinda Rathnathilaka’s family
According to the employees,Lanka Salusala has become the private property of Textile Development Minister, Mahinda Rathnapala. His brother-in-law has been appointed as the acting chairman while his son and his media secretary have been appointed as directors. The employees also complain that they have not been paid their salaries for the last three months.
