Bribery charges against principal
The Bribery Commission filed eight charges against the Principal and a teacher in Pelmadulla Mahinda Vidyalaya, and another person for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 to admit a child to grade one in the school. Nine productions and 20 witnesses were forwarded.

Police blamed for negligence
The Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate took the police to task for negligence during the recent attack on the house of UNP District Organiser Dr Rajah Johnpulle. His house and dispensary were burnt down during the NCP provincial council election.

Rights violation – leave granted to proceed
The Supreme Court granted leave to proceed in the fundamental rights violation petition filed by two investigating officers of the Bribery Commission – Inspectors of Police A M Nihal Amarasiri & K A Sujatha Kumari – against their removal and transfer from the Commission.for refusing to close a case involving a minister.

MTV files FR petition against Minister
Two fundamental rights applications have been filed in the Supreme Court by the MTV Channel and one of its journalists against Minister Mervyn Silva claiming Rs 110 million as compensation. The petitioners complain that the media personnel were subjected to cruel, degrading and inhuman treatment, and their freedom of movement and freedom of expression were violated by the respondent during the opening ceremony of the new overhead bridge at Peliyagoda.

Massive fraud alleged in refinery deal
Lanka-e-News reports that the second petroleum refinery of Sri Lanka that is to be established with the assistance of the state of Iran is more a massive fraud that pumps at least Rs. 60,000 million to the pockets of several bigwigs of the government than a project that brings long term benefits to the country.
