Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella told Parliament that 139 journalists have been killed in different parts of the world last year, and most of these cases were under war situations.
Speaking during the committee stage debate on his Ministry’s vote, Mr. Rambukwella noted that he would not justify at all the killings of these journalists under any situation.
The Minister said that the war had ended now in Sri Lanka, and journalists had the opportunity to practice their profession under a peaceful environment.
He said that he would commit himself to upgrade the media profession under the present situation in the greater interest of the country.
