TISL conducted a two-day workshop for all the staff members of the Yakkalamulla Pradeshiya Saba (PS) in Galle District to identify the present shortcomings and propose remedial action to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the PS.
The programme held in auditorium of the Yakkalamulla PS was organized in response to a request made by the District Secretary and the elected members of the PS. Issues relating to the organization structure and re-allocation of duties to staff members were discussed at the workshop.
As an outcome of the programme, a format was agreed upon to develop an action plan. The resource persons were Piyatissa Ranasinghe, former Secretary – Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and former Chief Secretary -Sabaragamuwa Province and Bandula Harischandra, acting District Secretary – Galle.
The Pradeshiya Sabha Act and related circulars and gazette notifications formed the basis of the workshop and the participants were trained on improving and energizing the working skills. Handouts prepared by TISL on the history of Local Government (LG), Peoples participation and LG, Introduction Bribery & Corruptio, Financial regulations pertaining to LG were distributed among the participants.
Chandima Liayanage, Chairman of Yakkalamulla PS also participated in the workshop. TISL was represented by Integrity Promoting Officer Dilshan Weerasinghe.
