Posters banned again

DailyMirror.lk:

The Elections Department, yesterday, reversed its earlier decision to lift the ban on the use of posters by political parties and independent candidates, and, instead, ordered police to remove all posters, cut-outs and banners related to the elections.Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake, a week ago, announced at a meeting with party heads that he had decided to lift the ban on the use of posters, as otherwise the candidates would have no means of conveying their preference numbers and their messages to voters.

But the Commissioner backtracked yesterday and instructed IGP Mahinda Balasuriya to take steps to remove all elections related posters, banners and cut-outs.

An official of the Elections Department told Daily Mirror that even images of political party leaders would not be permitted although they are not contesting the March 17 elections.
