It functions as a self financing, autonomous Chapter of TI with its own strategic directions and priorities.

The mission/purpose of TISL’s existence is to contribute to increase understanding of corruption, strengthen anti-corruption structures and processes and to appreciate upholding of integrity. Envisioning a nation that upholds integrity, TISLs goal is to support the collective effort to eradicate corruption in order to build a future Sri Lanka which is equitable, peaceful and just.

TISL developed a 5-year Strategic Plan which involved an extensive and consultative approach with wide-ranging participation by the TISL team as well as critical feedback from a cross section of TISL’s external stakeholders.

Concentration of power, focusing on economic growth and adopting opaque processes of decision making, leaves room for increased corruption at all levels of government sectors. Thus it is imperative that TISL continues to focus on National and Local Governance in relation to promoting integrity by using creative means in spite of the stifling restrictions placed by the present political context. As part of TISL’s Strategic Plan for the next five years, several ongoing and new initiatives have been developed that may lead to the expected outcomes of anti-corruption structures and processes in selected national and local government institutions, sustained influence on developing values and capacities that help curb corruption and promote integrity, and public officials more receptive to public engagement in ACI work.

As one of its strategic result areas Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) have chosen to work with the private sector which includes both the corporate sector and the CSO sector. As a sector with immense capacity and a huge role to play in the post war development of Sri Lanka, TISL believes that this is the right time for a long term engagement with the sector to promote and establish corporate governance and integrity.

Result area strategic interventions include building an evidence base of best practices existing in the sector as well lapses in the governance of the sector. With the support of the global movement against anti corruption TISL will introduce tools and mechanisms suitable for the Sri Lankan corporate sector and the CSO sector that will support the development of internal processes and strengthen corporate governance.

TISL will work in partnership with coalitions and other like minded organizations in all their interventions.

We work closely with government departments in training public officials on good governance and anti-corruption tools. Workshops are arranged to equip officials of provincial government offices and community based organizations with knowledge and skills to contribute to a more accountable public service. This includes Training of Trainers (TOT).

We conduct workshops to develop skills of journalists on investigative journalism. These help journalists, particularly in the outstations to highlight corrupt activities and wasteful expenditure by numerous public institutions.

We have formulated a book on called IJ toolkit.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]We create public awareness
Keeping the public informed and aware of the damaging effect of corruption and the need for good governance is one of our key priority areas. We plan numerous programmes to get active public participation in our efforts to build a nation of integrity. People’s Platforms, exhibitions and street dramas have proved to be effective tools of engagement in this endeavour.

A cartoon competition, a slogan competition, and an assignment competition for youth, all targeted towards promoting the message of anti-corruption are among successful events organized by TISL.

We promote Right to Information
The Right to Information being a strong tool to fight corruption, we have taken a lead role in explaining the citizen’s right to obtain information on how public funds are spent.

We partnered with Uva Community Radio (UCR) to introduce the concepts on Right to Information focused at the rural population in Sri Lanka. Ninety radio programmes were aired over three months. These programmes helped to build a network of whistleblowers among listeners. And we hope to extend this partnership into the future.

We recognise anti-corruption heroes
Every year we honour and recognize the inspirational efforts of many an unsung hero who work silently and diligently towards eradicating corruption and establishing good governance. Each year the Award is publicised and nominations are called for in June. The accepted nominations go through a process of inspection and selection carried out by an independent panel. The winner/s are presented with the National Integrity Award (NIA) held on 9 December – the United Nations Anti-Corruption Day.

We build coalitions
We build coalitions and work in partnership with the public, private and civil society sectors in our journey towards integrity. The Private Sector Integrity Coalition with several corporate sector professional associations, Media Coalition and the partnership with Sri Lanka Institute of Local Governance to promote good governance in local government institutions, are such coalitions.

We receive funds from both local sponsors and international donors for our activities.

Our current donors are the European Union (EU), National Endowment for Democracy (NED), World Bank, Fredskorpset(FK), Ministry of Foreign Affairs- Norway(MFA-Norway), , Helvetas Sri Lanka, and Partnership for Transparency Fund (PTF).Transparency International Secretariat
