The Ministry of Justice and law Reforms has prepared new criteria on appointing island wide Justices of Peace to prevent persons with unsound character and criminal backgrounds from being appointed to the post, Deputy Minister of Justice and law Reforms V. Puththirasigamoney told Daily Mirror.
“Basically, JPs are assigned the honorable duty of certifying documents and affidavits. Under the new proposal the ministry would be concerned about the basic qualifications of JP applicants. The Ministry would deeply take into consideration the basic education qualifications, social status and their social services to the society, police reports and religious reports as pre-requirements,” the Deputy Minister added.
