With support from the European Union, Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL), AFRIEL Youth Network, Vavuniya Divisional Secretariat and Registrar Department cooperated in identifying people who possess no minimum documents for applying for NIC and, therefore, their voting rights deprived. This programme was organized for facilitating the process of completing voter base in war-affected areas and raising citizen’s awareness of voter’s rights and responsibilities. This programme was held on 26th January 2016 in Resettlement area – Tellipalai Division. Identified 193 citizens prevented from voting due to no NIC and started a process jointly with government sectors to provide minimum documents for them to apply for NIC. Raised nearly 200 participants’ awareness of citizen’s rights and responsibility regarding elections.
