The Medical Supplies Division (MSD) of the health ministry yesterday withdrew two more drugs from the shelves, plunging the low quality drugs and vaccine related problems into further controversies.
The two drugs withdrawn were Anti Snake Venom Serum given to snake bite victims and the injection Acyclovir given to chicken pox victims. The MSD last week recalled rubella vaccine, Hydrocortisone and Dextrose, glucose liquid.
Director MSD, Dr. Sarath Weerabandara said the ministry would take action to cover the cost of sub-standard drugs that was withdrawn from the supplier. Their import permit will also be suspended. The offending company will be barred from bidding for tenders to import or supply drugs to the health ministry he added.
