Minister demanded a bribe: Wijeyadasa

DailyMirror

In a startling revelation, UNP MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe in Parliament yesterday charged that a Cabinet Minister had asked for a bribe from a Japanese organisation that had offered funds to build houses for people facing threats from wild elephants.

Mr. Rajapakshe who was speaking during the Debate on Civil Procedure Code Amendment in the House yesterday said that this Japanese organisation had offered Rs. 850 million to build these houses and this minister had inquired as to how much he would get as commission. He said this was asked when the Japanese organisation representatives met the minister to brief him about the proposals. He informed the House that this organisation had decided to help Thailand instead.

Mr. Rajapakse said the Opposition should not be considered as traitors when they talk of these things.
