Members of the Bope Poddala Pradeshiya Saba (PS) in Galle pledged their fullest cooperation to Transparency International Sri Lanka (TISL) to make the local authority more transparent and accountable. They promised this when TISL conducted a training workshop to build capacity of the members of the PS.
The training was conducted in Hotel Mega Gardens in Beligaha Galle. Members’ contribution for efficient administration, better fiscal management and members’ responsibilities, and promoting public participation were the topics discussed at the workshop. Participation of most of the members from both the ruling party and the opposition was significant.
Former TISL chairman and retired deputy auditor general M.D.Harold, former secretary to the Ministry of Post and Telecommunication Piyatissa Ranasinghe and TISL’s project manager, Ananda Jayasekara were the resource persons at the workshop. National Endowment for Democracy supported the programme financially.
