The government presented a supplementary estimate yesterday seeking parliamentary approval of funds exceeding Rs 2 billion for various purposes, including Rs. 60,000,000 to cover the losses incurred by overseas missions as a result of currency variations.
Approval was also sought for the purchasing of vehicles for several ministries and other governmental bodies. These included Rs 7.1 million for the Ministry of Technology and Research, Rs 20 million for the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade, Rs 2.9 million for the Ministry of Plantation Industries., Rs 4.8 million to purchase a vehicle for the prime minister’s office, Rs 9 million to purchase three vehicles for the Ministry of Ports and Highways and Rs 857,000 to meet the extra cost of a vehicle purchased for the Minister of Livestock and Rural Community Development.
In addition, approval was sought to spend Rs 722,000 to meet the cost of maintaining the official quarters of Minister of Mass Media and Rs 9 million to repair the official quarters of the Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion. Rs 23 million was sought to pay rent for the secretariat building for senior ministers.
Approval was sought for several development works, including Rs 300 million for the construction of school buildings in the western province. Rs 488 million was also sought for the payment of the revised salaries of SLTB employees.
Approval was also sought for Rs 1.1 billion to meet the expenditure related to printing vehicle number plates.
